  2. What is Euclid Network? • The European network of civil society leaders and social entrepreneurs, connected across borders and boundaries • Over 5,000 contacts from over 30 countries. • Members mainly from across Europe, including Eastern Europe and the whole Mediterranean region.

  3. Euclid Network’s aims • To offer collaborative support to develop leaders in order to find solutions for society. To test their ideas through pilots. • To facilitate the sharing of good practice, inspiring innovative solutions that are sustainable—both financially and socially. • To using its convening power to leverage the expertise of individuals and partners.

Themes in Euclid Network’s work • Four themes thatoffer potential value to our members and society: • leadership and entrepreneurship, • innovation, • sustainable financing, • good governance. • Three pillars The themes translate into a narrative based around three concepts that Euclid Network believes best support an enabled and engaged civil society: • social innovation, • social enterprise, • social investment.

A practical example: International Social Innovation Competition “Naples 2.0” GOAL Capacity building: open participatory process - mentoring provided to the winners Citizens are asked to come up with ideas in response to concrete challenges on the ground for a sustainable and innovative society Piloting: local needs met through effective and sustainable solutions Advocacy: evidence based policy to “nurture” the European policy agenda, OUTCOMES DIRECT INDIRECT 2 social enterprises launched • The European Commission launched the European Social Innovation Prize Competition and published booklet on Naples 2.0 • European Investment bank launched social innovation tournament • Montigovernment launched the social innovation agenda 7 winners mentored over 200 applications from over 37 countries and all sectors 500, 000 people reached, all media used (78 international newspaper/websites incl. The Guardian, Forbes, Bloomberg Business Week and 642 networks across Europe)

  7. Policy and advocacy work - examples • Social Enterprise in the Western Balkans and Turkey - challenging those responsible for the European Enlargement strategy on its absence of social innovation and social enterprise. • Social Business Initiative– advising the European Commission through participation in an expert group. • Financial Regulation - Initiated campaign in 2008 which saw the European Parliament approve the European Financial Regulation, which covers all EU funding.
