  2. INTRODUCTION The Director of Wrinkle Ranch Old People’s home has decided that the residents are in need of a bit of colour and cuisine from around the world to brighten up their lives. He has approached you, as cultural experts, to prepare and present a display of how other cultures celebrate.

  3. TASK By the end of the webquest your group will be required to create a poster that explores each of the following aspects of celebration in the country of your choice: • food • dance • music • Art/ craft Your group will display the poster at our cultural celebration where you present a sample of the food, dance, music, art and craft of your country to share with the rest of the class.

  4. PROCESS Each member of your group is responsible for one of the following roles: • Fanatic of feasts (food) • Master/ mistress of movement (dance) • Voracious of the visual (art/ craft) • Ruler of rhythm (music) You will need to research this aspect of your country using the following web addresses: WEB LINKS Once you have collected the information you need to return to your group to put this all together on your poster. You also need to plan how you are going to present the food, dance, art, and music for the cultural celebration fair.

  5. EVALUATION The assessment is based on the poster design, presentation, detail as per rubric:

  6. Conclusion • At the completion of the posters we will be celebrating at the Wrinkle Ranch with a cultural fair! Prepare your food, put on your dancing shoes, turn up the tunes, because we are going to take the oldies round the world in a day. Share the culture you have researched with the rest of the class, and experience the cultures the others have researched. • As a group you will need to present what you now know about the culture you have researched. You may want to perform or show a video of a dance, show examples of art work, prepare food, wear costume, play some music etc.

  7. Teachers Page • Teaching about cultural diversity Students need to understand that they are part of a global society and that there is great diversity within that. By learning about other cultures they develop an appreciation for and understanding of the customs, traditions and lifestyles of other people. Students learn to be open-minded and welcoming of people from all backgrounds. The culture webquest gives them the chance to explore some of their questions they might have about how people in other countries celebrate. The food fair is a fun, social way for students to share their research both through displaying posters, and through presenting examples of the culture in the selected areas.
