  3. To get started you must decide on…. • Where you are from • Where in Africa you are going to • What you are bringing to trade • What items you hope to trade for • A good solid merchant/trader name • **This is your ‘backstory’**

  4. Travel Journal • Part I: Describe your experience in Ghana, Mali, or Songhai (pp. 242-245) • Focus on leaders, government and economy • Part II: A society in East or South Africa (p. 247-249) • Focus = Culture, technology and differences from the western kingdoms

  5. Part III: A small village outside of the major trading centers.(pp. 250-58) • The King • Social Structures • Education • Slavery • Religion • Art and/or Music • The role of the Griot

  6. Your product may be NEATLY hand written or typed, mechanics count! • PLAN & READ today; WRITE on Wednesday. • Your ‘journal’ will be due at the beginning of class on FRIDAY
