Online PSI Form • Complete a Post Secondary Choices Form online referred to as a “PSI” Form • This allows the post secondary school to receive your marks electronically • ALL students planning to attend Post –Secondary MUST do this by April 30, 2011 • https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/ or go to the RSS Website for link • Must have your PEN # to do your PSI selection
TERM 3 Marks...DID YOU KNOW? • Your grade 11 final marks, your grade 12 first semester final marks, AND your grade 12 term-3 report card marks are used by the post secondary schools to determine whether or not you are accepted. • It is IMPERATIVE that your grades are meeting the admission standards, set by the college/university, by your Term 3 report card • Term 3 marks will make or break early admission • Lower GPA’s will result in later admission offers
Sources of Funding (What’s Next Guide p.54-55) • Dogwood District Authority Awards $1000 • Awarded to students who demonstrate skill in the areas of Fine Arts, Applied Skill, PE, or second languages • Career Path must match skill, will be nominated by teacher in April, and winners are notified in September • Student Loans • BC Loans www.aved.gov.bc.ca/studentaidbc/apply/howtoapply.htm • BC Loan Forgiveness http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/studentaidbc/repay/repaymentassistance/loanforgiveness.htm • Canada Loans www.canlearn.ca • Student Lines of Credit • See your banking institution • Passport to Education • Grade 10/11 - $250 and Grade 12 - $500 • Eligible if marks are in the top third of your class each year • COBSS Bursaries • Will be awarded COBSS bursaries at Grad Ceremonies in June
Accredited Institutions • If you are using COBSS bursaries, student loans, or the Passport to Education funds to pay for your tuition, you must be attending an accredited institution, designated by the Ministry of Advanced Education. • UBC, OC, U Vic, SFU, TRU, U, of A, etc are accredited (along with many others) • To check if your institution is accredited go to: www.aved.gov.bc.ca/institutions/welcome.htm “Designated Schools Link”
Things to Do • Ensure that the university/college has been added to your email program’s “safe list”, so messages don’t end up in your junk mail • Check email, student account , and mail frequently as they will be sending you important info about events, upcoming dates, etc • Make notes on your calendar about important dates, such as self reporting, registration, welcome day, etc • Visit the website, practise and plan out your courses so you are ready for your registration date • Have your courses chosen before your given registration date
Upcoming Dates for Schools • PSI form completed by April 30th • OC - Pay your $200 and verify important dates for your program • U Vic - Self-reporting deadline was March 31 www.uvic.ca/selfreporting • UBC • RSS Report cards issued Friday, April 29 • Self Reporting for UBC due May 3rd • Students notified by April 30th if they are receiving an MEA or MES • Acceptance offers before June 1st and pay your $250 acceptance deposit for UBC with credit card or online banking by June 1st • Residence confirmation comes in early June • Course registration open in late June

Okanagan College Contd. • Once you receive your letter acknowledging your application, ensure you complete all tasks required, such as: -proof of enrolment in English 12, transcript sent, etc • Important dates/deadlines vary, so please check your correspondence carefully • OC communicates through snail mail and requires students to send them a paper copy of transcript – see your counsellor to fax it to OC • Please pay your $200 deposit to secure your seat • Choose and plan out your courses prior to your course registration date • You will be given a registration package which will outline the process

Why Self-Report Grades? • It allows university to offer early admissions • This means you receive an earlier registration date • It allows you to register for classes earlier, which translates into a allowing you to create a better timetable, and avoids wait-lists for popular courses
How to Self-Report Grades to UBC • Sign on and create your online SSC account (university account) • Set aside at least one hour to complete this process • Have your transcript (TVR), PEN #,UBC #, and Term 3 report card marks handy – you will be reporting grade 11 and 12 marks • DO NOT self report until you know exactly what your term 3 marks are • Once you have self reported your grades, you can expect admission offers to come out by email
