The Problem: • The seafood industry contributes to the degradation of our oceans • Damage to aquatic habitats - through the use of destructive fishing gear, pollution, the introduction of invasive species or development; • Mismanagement through overfishing of targeted stocks; • Wasteful use of marine resources from prolific bycatch or a dependence on the use of fishmeal and fish oil by aquaculture; • Threats to species of special concern through accidental or intentional interactions with fisheries. • As a result, raising healthy fish and other types of sea-food is becoming more challenging while world demand is growing rapidly.
