  2. I. Taft Becomes President • William H. Taft (R) won election of 1908. • Continues Roosevelt’s Progressive reforms. • Not as effective as Roosevelt. • Two areas in which Taft had difficulties: • Tariffs • Conservation • Taft’s struggles will result in a division within the Republican Party.

  3. II. Republican Party Splits Two wings of the Republican Party: • Progressives- want reform. • Republican Progressives - Bull Moose Party, led by Teddy Roosevelt, who seeks 3rd term in office. 2. Conservatives- do not want reform. Support Taft.

  4. III. Election of 1912 • 4 Man Race for President: • Democrats: Woodrow Wilson • Progressive (Bull Moose): Teddy Roosevelt • Republicans: William Howard Taft • Socialists: Eugene Debs ----Who has the advantage? Why?---
