  3. CONSEQUENCES • 1ST VERBAL WARNING • 2ND DAY WITHOUT DISSECTION • 3RD RESULTS IN AN “F” FOR THE WHOLE DISSECTION

  4. DAILY PROCEDURES • IMMEDIATELY COME TO CLASS • PLACE CHAIR UNDER TABLE • PUT ON YOUR GOGGLES; APRONS; AND GLOVES • ONLY AFTER PROPER DRESS, MAY YOU GET YOUR FETAL PIG. • DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER BAG UNTIL DAILY INSTRUCTIONS HAVE BEEN GIVEN

GENERAL SCHEDULE • PREP – • INTRODUCTION • LAB SAFETY • LAB GROUP PROCEDURES • Day 1 – UNDERSTANDING BODY PLANES, PARTS, AND SEXING YOUR PIG • EXTERNAL ANATOMY • ORAL CAVITY • Day 2 • DIGESTIVE SYSTEM • QUICK LAB/DISCUSSION ON TONGUE, ESOPHAGUS • MOUTH TO RECTUM • ENZYMES • Day 3 • CIRCULATORY AND RESPIRATORY SYSTEMS • DAY 4 • UROGENETIAL SYSTEM/MAKE UP DAY • PIG PRACTICUM & PORKFOLIO DUE– MONDAY 5/20/13 • DURING PARTICULAR DISSECTION PERIOD WE WILL STOP TO DISCUSS FURTHER ABOUT HUMAN SYSTEMS THAT RELATE TO THE FETAL PIG TO INCLUDE OTHER LABS.

  6. LAB GROUPS • YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE DUTIES ON A REGULAR BASES. • YOU MUSTPARTICIPATE IN COMPLETION OF THE PORKFOLIO!!

LAB SAFETY RULES • SLEEVES • ARE TO BE ROLLED UP TO ELBOW • HAIR • NO HAIR BELOW COLLAR, MUST BE TIED UP TO ENSURE HAIR DOES NOT GET INTO FACE AND/OR DISSECTION AREA • CLOSED TOED SHOES • FEET MUST BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES FOR PROTECTION • PRESERVATION FLUID • NON-TOXIC BUT WASH HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER EACH LAB (see MSDS sheet) • SHARPS • PASS SCALPEL WITH SHARP END FACING DOWN • DO NOT RELEASE UNTIL PARTNER VERBALLY INFORMS YOU THAT YOU HAVE SCALPEL • KEEP SCALPEL IN SECURE AREA WHEN NOT IN USE • CAREFULLY USE PINS AND PROBES • SHARP BONES • ENSURE YOU OBSERVE ANY SHARP BONES BEFORE PLACING HANDS INTO CAVITY • GOGGLES • TO PROTECT AGAINST FLUID • IF EYES COME INTO CONTACT, NOTIFY TEACHER, FLUSH FOR 15 MINUTES • GLOVES • TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES • ALL SCRAPS AND CUTS MUST HAVE BAND-AID ON • APRON • TO PROTECT CLOTHING • CHEWING GUM • NO CHEWING GUM AND/OR FOOD AND DRINKS • CONTACT LENS • SHOULD NOT BE WORN DURING LABS • IF YOU DO HAVE CONTACT LENS ON DO NOT RUB EYES AT ANYTIME UNTIL HANDS ARE WASHED • SCRAPES AND CUTS • MUST BE COVERED WITH PROPERLY PLACED BAND-AID
