Recommended Design • 20 year sampling effort • biennial sampling to reduce cost, but maintain reasonable power and obtain timely information on emerging contaminants –annual sampling would provide answers in 20 years or less • collect duplicates to continue to refine estimates of variance • 10 egg composites at each location as a balance between obtaining representative samples and minimizing impact on reproductive output of each colony

  11. Recommended Design • include PCBs, LPs, mercury, selenium, dioxins and dibenzofurans, PBDEs, PFCs – other emerging contaminants recommended by the ECWG • carefully archive samples for future retrospective analysis • cost approximately $25K per year
