  2. E-learningisconcernedwiththeacqusition of knowledge and skillusingelectronictechnologieswhichenablepeopletolearnanytime and anywhere. Itreferstothe use of electronic media and information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. • In the real world, people have jobs to do and budgets are limited. This learning programs will need the power of technology to overcome the limitations of time, distance and resources. • The use of synchronous and asynchronous tools make E-learning interactive in that students can also communicate with their teachers, professors or other students in their class WHAT IS E-LEARNING? E-learningisself-paced, hands-onlearning.

  3. E-learning includes numerous types of media that deliver text, audio, images, animation, and streaming video, and includes technology applications and processes such as audio or video tape, satellite TV, CD-ROM, and computer-based learning, as well as local intranet/extranet and web-based learning. (wikipedia). • The most frequently used tools in virtual environments are blogging, microblogging, wikis, podcasting, screen capture and screen casting, video hosting and sharing, slide sharing presentations and others. TYPES OF TOOLS

  4. Weblogs A personal publishing tool that means any individual or group can publish on the web and receive feedback from others. Plug-ins enable you to embed resources such as images, YouTube videos and Slidesharepresentations. Blogs are essentially self-contained and, rather like a diary, reflect the opinions, thoughts and ideas of the people who write them. Blogs are an increasingly important communication tool in social, work and academic contexts. Example: wordpress, blogger.

  5. Enables you to stay in touch and update your contacts on where you are and what you are doing. Usually formatted to respond to the question “Where are you now...” or “what are you thinking...” with a strict limit (about 140 – 150 characters) on the length of the response. Microblogging

  6. Wikis A collaborative tool for setting up easily edited websites which have content added and amendedbyreaders. As with weblogs, wiki software allows us to publish online without facing the technical barriers. A wiki is a webpage that is created and can be revised collaboratively. It enables people to add, delete, or change information without knowing a programming language or going through a Webmaster.

  7. Podcasting This is “a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers.” (wikipedia) A podcast is like a radio or TV show. However, instead of being broadcast live, a podcast is recorded and then distributed over the internet, so that you can listen to it whenever you want. there are thousands of podcasts available from other providers ranging from general interest entertainment shows to those focusing on specific topics e.g. computers or music or scienceoreducation.

  8. Screen capture and screen casting Screencasting is a digital recording of a computer screen's sequence of actions. The resulting file is encoded into a format similar to video. With an accompanying voice narration or background audio from a program, screencasts can be ideal for developing on-screen tutorials and distributed for easy viewing in an online setting. You can capture an image of what you see on your computer, mark up your screenshot with a text box, arrow, highlight or picture caption, and decide how you want to share it.

  9. Video hosting and sharing Video sharing websites are social networking sites that allow you to upload and store video clips and share them with others and, in some cases, download them. YouTube is far and away the most used of these sites and the first commercial one. A very common way to share the YouTube videos with an audience, such as your students, is to embed the video in a webpage, for example on a social networking site or in a blog. Once embedded, YouTube can then be viewed directly from that webpage without the user having to make the effort to browse the YouTube website.

  10. Presentationsharing Slide sharing services allow you to upload and distribute your PowerPoint presentation on your web site or preferred social media. Most of these slide sharing services are also completely free of charge. Uploading your presentation online does not require advanced technical knowledge or skills. The only thing you need to do is to grab the file of your presentation and click "upload" on your preferred slide sharing service.Generally, slide sharing services not only support standard PowerPoint presentations in their various formats, but can also import your presentation slides from other formats like: PDF, DOC, XLS, ODP, ODT, KEY, RTF or JPG
