Where to start • Request for transcript (complete & turn in today) • Applications: • Iowa Licensure by Examination (IBON) • Finger print cards (2)- criminal background form • Application form (front and back) • fee • NCLEX examination (Candidate Bulletin) • Correct code for DMACC NOT ADN! • Register by mail or web site • fees

  3. Authorization to test • Self schedule- must do within 91 days of receipt of Authorization to Test ! • Special testing circumstances- contact IBON ASAP.

  4. What next! • Can I work before I know if I passed? • May begin classroom orientation. • There is no rule prohibiting orientation to patient care areas by observing a licensed nurse. • Verification- did you pass? • Pass/fail- not by phone NCLEX • Will be notified by mail • IBON does 1st or 2nd Wed. following test date • verifies Iowa licensure by phone-281-3255

  5. Nurse licensure compact information • Effective July 1st, 2000 • Apply for license in your primary state of residence- where you hold drivers license, vote, pay taxes. • Nurse is responsible for complying with the nsg. Practice laws & regulations of the state where patient located.

  10. Now you are an LPN • Mandatory Reporter-complete education every 5 years • License Renewal- done via computer- notified via newsletter • Supervising in LTC- must work 6 months and take LPN supervising course • IV course- 2080 hrs practice as LPN • Complete approved course

  12. Continuing education • 36 hours/ 3.6 CEU’s in a 3 year period • Save all CEU information/education materials • Must notify IBON with any change of address or name change! • Notify of criminal conviction in 30 days.
