  1. Christians think you should…. If I want to go to Heaven, what should I do?

  2. Lesson objective • The aim of this lesson is to use picture clues and video clips to help you understand what Muslims believe about life after deathand why they believe it.

  3. Lesson outcomes • Grade C: will be able to explain what akhirah is and what it involves. • Grade B: will be able to give examples of how believing in life after death might affect the way a believer lives their life. • Grade A: will be able to give an explanation of your own as to what happens when you die.

  4. What do Muslims believe about life after death? • Watch the following clip. It was made to remind Muslims what will happen to them on the last day. • http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/hajj-day-two/3259.html • Now complete task one on the sheet by putting the statements in the correct order.

Akhirah (Life after Death) After death, the body will stay in the grave until the Day of Judgement Two angels will open the book which contains the record of what a person has done in their life On the Day of Judgement the body will be resurrected 2 4 1 If their name is on the left side, they will be sent to Jahannam (Hell) Allah will judge each person on the way they lived their life If their name is on the right side, they will be sent to al’Jannah (paradise) 6 5 3

  7. Why believe in Akhirah? • Look at the second side of your sheet. There are four pictures on the sheet. • Your teacher may have given you the captions for the pictures; match them up. • Your teacher may have removed the captions from the pictures; you must write them in yourself.

  8. Body and soul • Muslims believe that the body is resurrected after death. Christians say it is the soul. • How might this belief make Muslims act differently to Christians in how they live their life? Give a reason for your answer.

  9. Heaven or Hell? • How can Muslims make sure they go to Heaven and not Hell? • There are many rules that a Muslim must follow – some contained in the Five Pillars and others as well. • How many can you guess from the pictures? Complete the boxes on the back of the sheet.
