  1. Willis Washington Chapter Representative Oklahoma willis@neuroresources.org 214.417.1195 (c) 405.605.1466 (o)

  2. I am fired up and ready to go! Wheels of Change Oklahoma City Chapter

  3. I don’t always do things just because I want to… I do them because they need to be done. – Willis Washington, Policy Advisor, OK Chapter • Speak up and speak out!!

  4. " Be the change you want to see in the world” -Gandhi (Shared by Michele Leahy, United Spinal Board Member)

  5. Getting Started Get Involved. It starts with you.

  6. You can sit around and complain all day or you can get up and do something about it. – Diane Thomson, MI chapter representative/ clinician • Impact - Take advantage of this opportunity to network at our conference and learn the process of advocating for people with disabilities.  You can build on these contacts and grow these relationships and start the process of effecting change

  7. Tact & Approach It's not just what you say but it's how you say it. Example: I demand that you support House Bill - HB 1609. (Might not be received well). Congressman Lankford, I’m here today asking for your support of House Bill – HR 942 and this policy affects me in this way. (This example will probably get a better response.) • "Don't play the game, change it" • (Jackie Robinson movie trailer) • "Just Do It" - Action speaks louder than words. - Nike

  8. Leadership • You all have shown me that you are doer's...by coming to this conference. • "Keep fighting the good fight" - The wheels of progress sometimes turn slow...but they turn... # Progress.

  9. What makes you different? There are two types of people, those who talk about what they want to do, and how things need to change, and others who simply "Do it". You have demonstrated to me that you are an elite group of people...a rare group.

  10. Advocacy • I hope the things I've presented to you will inspire you to "Act"!!! • "If not me than who?" - Willis Washington

  11. “Let’s Roll On Capitol Hill” • “Everyone repeat after me…Fired up! Ready to go!, Fired up! Ready to go!!!”. – Edith Childs, Greenwood NC • Now let’s go out to Capitol Hill and change the world…
