  4. Hypothalamus • Controls the Pituitary Gland • Connection between the Nervous System and the Endocrine System

  5. Pituitary Gland • Divided into two parts • Anterior Pituitary • hGH • Posterior Pituitary • ADH • OT

  6. Thyroid & Parathyroid • Parathyroid: • Embedded in Thyroid Gland • Controls calcium levels • Thyroid: • regulates metabolism

  7. Pancreas • Broken in to 2 parts • Endocrine secretes insulin and glucagon hormones, maintaining sugar level

  8. REPRODUCTIVE • Ovaries: • Produces and houses the ova • Produces estrogen and progesterone • Testes: • Produces sperm • Produces and secretes androgens (testosterone)

  9. PINEAL & THYMUS • Pineal Gland: • Small and cone-shaped • Secretes melatonin • Thymus: • Plays a role in immune function • Produces thymosin

  10. Adrenal Glands • Involved in “Fight or Flight” response • Blood Pressure Regulation • Mobilizations of fats proteins and carbs • Stimulated by nervous system, responds by release of hormones directly into the bloodstream
