  3. The Centre for Education Policy in Practice – key principles • Challenge inequality, including economic inequality • Research to support front line practice • Develop effective voice for children, young people, families and learners • Support innovation and change

  4. The Research Question What is the impact of turbulence on pupil attainment, and how effective are school interventions in meeting the needs of individual children and their communities?

Proposed research programme Phase 1: review data from RAISEonline, EYFS Profile, KS1 and KS2 datapacks, and correlate with school’s own progress data Phase 2: feedback to school Phase 3: interviews with children, parents and local community members Phase 4: Contribute findings to School Improvement Plan

  6. Findings to date - strengths • achieving success in a challenging context, • improving maths whilst building on strengths in English, • providing well for ‘invisible’ children, ie those in the middle who get overlooked • counteracting the negative impact of high mobility

  7. Areas for further investigation • Year-on-year progress for mobile compared to non-mobile children • Induction procedures • Assessment arrangements - provision for new arrivals • Processes to capture data for new arrivals in time for it to be useful • How do children and families feel about their induction?

  8. More areas • How does the school prevent regression for children changing schools? • How does the school capture and accurately assess children’s starting points whenever they start in school so that the school can build on children’s prior learning?

  9. Where next? • Work with other local schools and early years settings • Comparison with other BME/ community related projects • Multi –agency/ parenting projects • Comparisons with other forms of school mobility eg service families
