  1. President • Oversee management of the club. • Liaise with external and internal associations including RACS QLD, SurgIN and BUSA. • Give direction and provide leadership to the achievement of MSSBU SIG’s aim, goals and objectives. • Be the official spokesperson for MSSBU SIG on both a university and national level.

  2. Treasurer's Report At the start of its 2nd year (Semester 133), the SurgSoc account sat at $1770. Now, at the end of its 2nd year and beginning of its 3rd year (Semester 143), the account has finished with $2300, representing a net gain of $530 (+30%). Breakdown of Debits and Credits Per Event (not including miscellaneous items and reimbursement funds): Semester 141: - The Great Debate: To Cut Is To Cure • Debit – $150 • Credit – $72 Semester 142: - Networking Night • Debit – $1290 • Credit – $96 - Medical Students Society Careers Fair • Debit – $255 • Credit – $0 - Surgical Skills Workshop Night • Debit – $95 • Credit – $35 - 4th Year RACS Surgical Skills Competition • Debit – $0 • Credit – $0 Semester 143: - Australian Surgical Leadership Symposium (Co-Hosted w/ Griffith University) • Debit – $0 • Credit – $0

  3. Treasurer As treasurer, you are ultimately responsible for managing SurgSoc’s account. As part of this, it is your role to: • Organise the budget with BUSA at the start of every semester based on the events the MSSBUSIG team decide to hold throughout that semester • Apply for the Student Opportunity Fund for the events of the semester for which extra funding is needed or desired • Work closely with the Sponsorship Director to generate as much income as possible by maintaining current and finding new sponsors as well as building on SurgSoc’s current relationship with BUSA • Work closely with the Events Director to allocate the right amount of funding for planned events so as to avoid money wasting or unnecessary expenditure • Set a baseline amount as a buffer and for which you aim to be at by the end of the semester/year so that you can tailor events to the budget • Go that extra step further from your role as treasurer to help other members where need be and to contribute ideas that will benefit the Society and its members

  4. VP/Events Director As VP/Events Director, your role is to ensure that you uphold the standard of great events that the SurgSoc is known for. It requires you to make contact with the various professionals, to make sure that events are organized, interesting and on time It gives you the opportunity to network with local surgeons on the Gold Coast/Brisbane, and allows you to get a deeper look into the field of surgery

Sponsorship Director Role: involves working with the sponsorship officer to: - Identify potential sponsorship opportunities – financial and non-financial - Recruit sponsors for events - Maintain sponsor relations - Bridging communication between sponsors and the rest of the committee - Developing sponsorship proposals for prospective and current sponsors - Preparing formal paperwork such as sponsorship offer emails, agreements, thank you letters Also: - Be prepared to make a lot of phone calls, especially at the start - Good professional communication skills and ability to build rapport are essential

  6. Secretary As secretary your main duties are- To organise meetings and take minutes- To have a list of tasks that each of the team members need to do and assist with these when you can - To help Sponsorship and Events Director liase with other companies/societies - To organise RSVP's and payment (along with the treasurer) as well as post announcements and reminders

  7. I.T. & Publications Director As I.T. & Publications director, your role is to:- Maintain and update MSSBU SIG website- Design posters and publications for events- Update facebook page with latest events and information- Be able to provide assistance with any technical difficulties during events
