BITECIC – a Yorkshire Forward-supported Centre of Industrial Collaboration in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. • 3 year tapered funding support 2003-6. • Business Model: Research & Development services to Industry, primarily in the Y&H region, managed externally with resource provided from within the WRUs (Sheffield, Leeds, York). • Offices at Thorpe Park, Leeds. • 5 FTEs

Yorkshire Forward Research and Development Award for Large Companies • £18.5M scheme running for three years. • Supports large company R&D programmes with up to 50% funding. • Two calls for proposals already: next is expected during autumn 05. • No specific requirement for CIC involvement. Offers a further opportunity to develop large company industrial interaction with HEIs.

  7. BITECIC: Regional Issues • Breadth and industry focus of regional academic science base (our suppliers). • Breadth of regional industrial base in forefront technologies (our customers). • Developing a viable business model for self sustainability at the end of RDA support period.
