  3. Who are We? ABS Education Services • Encourage greater use of ABS data in schools; • Assist teachers and students use ABS data appropriately; • Improve statistical literacy of students; • Promote the study of statistics and statistics as a career.

What does ABS Do? • Economic and business data • National accounts (CPI, PPI, LPI) • Labour market • Household income • Export/import data • Profitability • Social and demographic data • Census (every 5 years) • Demographic data (estimated population) • Crime and justice statistics • Education statistics • and much, much more

  13. You can search using any of the above tabs. Same search method for QuickStats, MapStats, etc We have typed ‘Fairfield’ and a list of all places that include ‘Fairfield has come up

  14. Once a selection has been made, a map appears to check it is the wanted area

  15. QuickStats:The major characteristics for that area are displayed; About persons, families and dwellings Comparisons are made with Australia as a whole

  16. Choose MapStats Choose MapStats

  17. Search MapStats the same way as QuickStats

  18. Choose topic and sub topic, then press sub-location (i.e. how the map will be divided)

  20. Search Community profiles the same

  21. There are 6 Community profiles:Basic; Indigenous; Time Series; Place of Enumeration; Extended; and Working population; Whether a particular profile is available depends on the area

  23. The Excel spreadsheet opens on a list of all tables; The tabs down the bottom are the links to further topics, concepts and each table

  24. Basic Community Profiles Tutorials • Go to ABS homepage • Choose ‘Services’ from top menu bar • Choose ‘ABS Online Training’ • Click on ‘Online Learning’
