Drug Testing Policy

2. Who is being tested? • Interscholastic extra-curricular activities • Students that drive and park on school property • Opt-In participants

3. Purpose and Intent • Why just test athletes and drivers? • Purposes: • To educate students of the serious physical, mental and emotional harm caused by illegal drug use. • To ensure that students adhere to a training program that bars the intake of illegal and performance-enhancing drugs. • To assure the safe operation of student-driven vehicles on campus. • To undermine the effects of peer pressure by providing an additional legitimate reason for students to refuse to use illegal drugs.

4. When can a student be tested? • Randomly selected – equal probability of selection • Reasonable suspicion – based on appearance, speech, or behavior and/or information of illegal or performance-enhancing drug use

5. What drugs are we testing for? • Alcohol • Marijuana • Performance-enhancing drugs • Etc., etc.

6. Type of Testing • Urine drug screening • Specimens collected in private restrooms at each school • You will have privacy. An employee of SportSafe and an employee of the school will be present outside of the restroom.

7. Confidentiality • Positive tests for activity students will result in the designee at the central office, the principal, the head coach, and the parent or custodial guardian being notified . • Positive tests for driving students will result in the student, the principal and the parent or custodial guardian being notified. • Positive tests for Opt-In Participants will result in the student and the parent or custodial guardian being notified.

8. Consequences • Activity Students 1st Offense: In order to continue in the activity, the parent/guardian must, within five school days, show proof that the student has received drug counseling from a qualified drug treatment program or counseling entity. The student will be tested three more times within the next calendar year. 2nd Offense: Suspension from activities for fourteen calendar days and successful completion of a board approved substance abuse education/counseling program. The student will be tested monthly for the remainder of the school year. Self-referral: A student who self-refers will be allowed to continue in the activity but will be considered to have committed his/her first offense.

9. Consequences (continued) • Driving Students 1st Offense: Driving privileges are immediately suspended until the parent or guardian submits proof that the student has received drug counseling. Three additional screenings will occur within the next calendar year. 2nd Offense: Revocation of driving/parking privileges for 90 school days. Student has to provide a negative test to drive after the 90 day suspension and the student will be tested five additional times over the next calendar year.

Consequences (continued) • Opt-in Participants Any offense: Parent will be notified. • Refusal to Submit to Drug Use Test Ineligibile for one school year • Students will not be disciplined under the Student Code of Conduct Policy unless they have illegal substances on school grounds or are under the influence on school grounds.

11. Reporting of Results • Negatives – 24 to 48 hours • Positives – 48 to 72 hours

12. Medical Review Officer • Interpret results • Review medications • Talk with parents • Report Results

13. Procedure • Take the Quiz and print it out • Must have consent form signed • Consent form is turned in when you apply for a parking pass or when you show up for practice • Name goes into random pool • Drug Testing Program begins testing
