Boren Scholarships • Promotes undergraduates with the resources to acquire skills in the areas of the world critical to national security in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government • Award: Up to $20,000 for study abroad opportunities • Campus Deadline: January 15, 2013 • Deadline: February 2013 (check exact date) • Campus Advisors: Dr. David Uber, French Dpt. • http://www.borenawards.org/boren_scholarship

Critical Language Awards • Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages • Arabic • Persian • Azerbaijani • Bangla/Bengali • Hindi • Indonesian • Korean • Punjabi • Turkish • Urdu • Chinese • Japanese • Russian • Award: fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction for 7-10 weeks for U.S. graduate students • Deadline: usually due in early-mid November • http://www.clscholarship.org/

Gilman International Scholarship • The applicant must be on a Federal Pell Grant and be accepted to a study abroad program • Offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means • Summer and semester-long support • For non-traditional study abroad destinations (not for European study) • Students may receive up to $5,000 in aid and an added $3,000 in some cases • http://www.iie.org/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program

Pickering Foreign Affairs Intern • Internships to prepares students to enter Dept. of State Foreign Service • Women, under-represented groups, students with financial need are encouraged to apply • Fields: international affairs, political/economic analysis, administration, management, science policy. • Early February 2013 deadline

Truman Scholarship • For juniors committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or other public service areas www.Truman.gov • Applicants demonstrate strong leadership potential • Provides financial support for graduate study, $30,000, and leadership training • Campus advisor: Elizabeth Vardaman • Campus Deadline: November 2012
