  1. WHERE DOES ASBESTOS HIDE IN HOMES? (AND WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND IT) Asbestos is a very dangerous material that could be found anywhere around the house. The fact that it is colorless and is very difficult to spot makes it even more dangerous.

  2. 1) Roofing and Siding Shingles In the 90s asbestos has been highly used for roofing and siding because of it being fire resistant and used to come at a very low cost. This is the reason that most of the homes from the 90s would have the presence of asbestos. 

  3. 2) Attic and Wall Insulation Asbestos was termed to have great insulation qualities. This is the reason that asbestos was largely used in popcorn walls and other types of walls as well. Until the asbestos is behind the wall it won’t be any risk but any work of renovation and reconstruction can bring imminent danger.

  4. 3) Drywall The addition of asbestos on drywall was mainly to make sure that the component gains the required strength while not gaining much weight. But it is important to take note that like most of the building material, the asbestos present in the drywall won’t put any imminent danger until it remains untouched.

  5. 4) Paint Asbestos was termed to have great insulation qualities. This is the reason that asbestos was largely used in popcorn walls and other types of walls as well. Until the asbestos is behind the wall it won’t be any risk but any work of renovation and reconstruction can bring imminent danger.

  6. 5) Ceilings There is mostly two types of ceiling that have high chances of the presence of asbestos. It is a popcorn ceiling and tile ceiling. The low cost of asbestos providing great durability and insulation properties made it a perfect material to be used in ceilings.

  7. 6) Fireplaces Whether it’s a chimney or a stove or a simple fireplace if it dates back to the ’90s then it has high chances of the presence of asbestos in it.
