Serious Ailments Caused by Mobile Use With life going mobile across the globe, its side effects also cannot be denied. While it has managed to ease the communication with friends, colleagues, and relatives, it also comes with a range of negative impacts. These impacts are on youth, human brain and society in all are quite serious. As per some the medical studies, researches and report health recorded, common side effects of using mobiles in excess are growing every day. These effects are quite worrisome since these advances to serious diseases, therefore affecting the overall life quality of humans at large. Some of the top most mobile side effects recorded majorly among teenagers are listed below:
Teen Tendonitis (TTT): The over usage of mobiles lead to Teen Tendonitis (TTT) which indicates a constant pain in hands, back, and neck owing to maintaining a bad posture for longer hours. It further extends to musculoskeletal disorders like tendonitis and arthritis in forearm and thumb. Anxiety: Since teens spend longer hours with their cell phones, they do not spend time in doing productive things thus are more prone to develop anxiety, and depression. Risk of serious diseases: Although there has been no concrete proof around this, but excessive use of cell phone surely results in increased in risk of acoustic neuroma, especially among those who use mobiles for more than 10 years. Disordered sleep: Sleep loss is another disadvantage of excessive mobile use. Since mobile consumes a lot of attention and bandwidth of their life, teens tend to remain in a state to be attentive to respond to texts and calls. The late night sleeping patterns results in tiredness and often dizziness. Cyber bullying: With technology comes great responsibility of safety. Extensive reach of mobiles to teenagers has especially led to incidences of cyber bullying. Almost 10% of children between the ages of 13-18 years had been cyber bullied by cell phone, among which 5% were cyber bullied by another person using a cell phone. Such disturbances result in development psychosomatic problems, such as problems falling asleep, frequent headaches, anxiety, and depression. Weak eyesight: This is yet another mobile side effects which is a resultant of increased use of cell phones. As per a study, 30 medical students were monitored for mobile usage out of which 83% of had cell phone vision syndrome. This included burning sensation, redness, blurred vision, and dry eyes. Obesity: It goes without saying that mobile has taken away the outdoor activities from a teen’s routine. Constant usage of cell phones results in obesity among teenagers. As per studies, teens who spend more than five hours in front of mobile screens have a
tendency of getting less sleep or exercise, and owing to limited physical workout they develop obesity.
