The PAL Process empowers educators to enhance learning outcomes by first setting clear goals aligned with standards and identifying barriers. Next, it involves analyzing the current curriculum, including methods and assessments, to pinpoint obstacles to learning. The process incorporates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure all lessons cater to diverse learner needs. Finally, educators can teach the lessons, evaluate their effectiveness, and make necessary revisions. This comprehensive approach promotes an inclusive learning environment for all students.

THE PAL PROCESS Winter 2011
The PAL Process helps us to: • Set goals (establish the context of the lesson, align goals to standards, find barriers in goals and plan appropriate scaffolds). • Analyze the status of the current curriculum (the goals, methods, materials, and assessments) identifying barriers to learning • Apply UDL to ensure that lessons will maximize learning (identifying and selecting options that meet the needs of all learners). • Teach the lesson; evaluate and revise as necessary
Step 1 in the PAL Process: • Set goals.
Step 2 of the PAL Process: • Analyze status
PAL Process Step 3: • Identify UDL: Identify UDL materials and methods, write UDL plan, collect and organize materials.
