Latest Developments 1 January 2010 - Date agreed by Executive in November 2008 Education Bill 1 awaiting scheduling of Consideration Stage Draft of Bill 2 – Education Committee have already taken evidence Minister’s announcement at ANIELB Conference - not now likely that 1 January will be met - working with Executive colleagues to determine new date - will announce new governance arrangements effective from 1 January 2010 - accelerated convergence

    4. ESA Chairman Designate Appointed Seán Hogan appointed August 09 Interviews for Board Members now taking place Appointments in New Year

    5. ESA Has 6 Directors Designate Confirms the rich pool of talent that exists within the existing organisations Directors Designate now bringing their experience to bear in shaping the emerging service structures of ESA Interviewing for Director of Strategic Planning in December

ESA Directors Designate Clare Mangan appointed Director of Children and Young People's Services - currently Head of Children and Young People’s Services at SELB and WELB Richard Hanna appointed Director of Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment - currently Director of Education Strategy at CCEA

    7. ESA Directors Designate Barry Mulholland appointed Director of Education Quality and Standards - currently Chief Executive of WELB Shane McCurdy appointed Director of Finance and ICT - currently on secondment at the ESAIT as Financial Planning Project Manager

    8. ESA Directors Designate Robbie McGreevy appointed Director of Human Resources and Workforce Development –currently Acting Inter-board Services Manager at SELB and WELB Patricia Mellon appointed Director of Operational Services - currently Chief Administrative Officer at BELB

    9. Why Change? Variability of outcomes for young people Need to modernise and streamline administration

    10. Why ESA? A single organisation with a clear and unambiguous responsibility to support you in achieving better outcomes for pupils Shifting the balance of resources from the centre to schools Greater focus on the pupil Equality of access to excellent provision

    11. Why Improve Outcomes? We have many examples of excellent performance in our schools, however ….. Significant differences in performance of post-primary schools: Often in similar areas/circumstances; and Differences across and within sectors International comparisons: PISA studies show a downward trend NI has among the widest variations in performance in pupils in maths, reading and science

    12. NI Grammar Schools % of year 14 pupils achieving 3 or more A levels (or equivalent) at grades A-C (4 year average) by % pupils eligible for Free School Meals 2007/08
