  2. The Compliments of Christ • Jesus did not compliment people concerning their outward physical qualities • Jesus complimented people concerning their inward spiritual qualities • His compliments teach us what is really needed to go to heaven

  3. Nathaniel: John 1:45-51 • “An Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile” (Jn. 1:47) • Jesus complimented his honesty, integrity, and purity

  4. Roman Centurion: Luke 7:2-10 • “I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Lk. 7:9; see also Mt. 8:5-13) • Jesus complimented his great faith shown by his complete trust in Jesus’ absolute authority: “but say the word…”

  5. Mary: Luke 10:38-42 • “but one thing is needful; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Lk. 10:42) • Jesus complimented her single-minded priority (“one thing”) to learn from Jesus

  6. Mary: Mark 14:3-9 • “She has wrought a good work on me … She has done what she could” (Mk. 14:6,8) • Jesus complimented her good work in doing what she could do for Jesus

  7. John: Matthew 11:7-11 • “Among them that are born of women there has not arisen a greater than John the Baptist” (Mt. 11:11) • Jesus complimented his boldness, courage, and conviction; John was not spineless or soft

  8. Canaanite: Matthew 15:21-28 • “O woman, great is your faith” (Mt. 15:28) • Jesus complimented her great faith shown by her persistent determination to get to Jesus

  9. Scribe: Mark 12:28-34 • “You are not far from the kingdom of God” (Mk. 12:34) • Jesus complimented his discreet (intelligent, wise) answer to what he had known in God’s word

  10. Widow: Mark 12:41-44 • “This poor widow cast in more than all they that are casting into the treasury” (Mk. 12:43; see also Lk. 21:1-4) • Jesus complimented her generous sacrifice; not how much she gave, but how much she left behind - nothing (she gave all she had)

  11. The Compliments of Christ • Have no guile or deceit (1 Pet. 2:1, 3:10) • Submit to authority (Eph. 1:22) • Choose one thing (Psa. 27:4; Phil. 3:13) • Do what you can do with what you have (2 Cor. 8:12)

  12. The Compliments of Christ • Be bold and courageous (Heb. 3:6; 10:35) • Have persistent determination (Rom. 5:3) • Use wise discerning knowledge (Phil. 1:9-10) • Sacrifice your all (2 Sam. 24:24)
