2006 saw further broad-based strength in the tourism economy. In 2007, growth is not expected to be quite so dynamic as in 2006 as growth moves generally closer to the trend rates embodied in the 10-year annualized forecast.

GermanyThe World Cup underpinned exceptional tourism growth in 2006, with economy GDP increasing by 7%. For 2007, the challenge is to sustain tourism’s higher contribution to overall activity as growth returns towards the trend rates embodied in the 10-year forecast.Tourism.

Declining foreign visitor and government spending limited the tourism’s industry’s expansion in 2006, although investment grew rapidly. Such investment is likely to bear fruit in 2007 when visitor exports are expected to rebound, boosting employment growth.

Italy2006 saw a marked increase in visitor exports, which produced a 3% increase in the tourism economy after several years of decline. Further progress is expected to be made in 2007 but the maturity of the tourism sector in Italy is reflected in the more modest 10-year growth rates.

Despite sterling’s strength, 2006 saw a marked rise in all categories of tourism in the UK, with visitor numbers hitting record levels. 2007 is expected to see another good performance, with the tourism economy expanding by over 4%.
