A Bit of History • Reorganization of all University of Missouri “online and distance” education programs 2009 - 2011 • MU Direct • CDIS • ET @ MO • All combined into MIZZOU ONLINE • MU High School: part of Center for Distance and Independent Study (CDIS) • Offering “asynchronous” courses for nearly 100 years • MU High School moved to UM College of Education – effective July 1, 2011

Opportunities • Create a new virtual school offering multiple options: • Semester-based courses with digital resources • Taught by instructors provided by CoE VS • Taught by teachers from districts – courses hosted on CoE VS Learning Management System (LMS) • Hybrid (face-to-face and online) • Fully online • Licensed to districts for use on their LMS • Hybrid (face-to-face and online) • Fully online

Timeline • Establish CoE VS Learning Management System and organize course development teams by October 2011 • Course development - beginning with high school level • Biology I (first semester) and American Govt ready to pilot by January 2012 • Remaining core courses (both semesters) ready to pilot by June 2012 • Continue development of remaining courses down to elementary level through June 2013 • Develop staffing infrastructure/support system by January 2012 • Secure strategic partnerships to support CoE VS

Vision for a New Consortium • Partnership of Missouri public school districts, institutions of higher education, professional education associations, and selected private-sector partners • Dedicated to the development of high quality instructional opportunities for students and professional development for teachers and administrators

Stakeholders’ Meeting • Discover the “future of learning” for Missouri P-20 education • Understand the relevance of digital learning and its implications for • Enhanced learning for Missouri students • Rural, urban and suburban settings • Teacher and administrator preparation programs • Induction and mentoring programs • Leveraging existing resources

MSBA On-LineConsortium MSBA On-Line will serve as: • The coordinator of the consortium, • A clearing house for the procurement and/or development of courses utilizing current technologies and learning systems, and • A resource center for member districts for professional development, technical support, financial planning, and policy advocacy and development
