  9. Gimmicks & Gizmos • Advantages: • 1- Engages entire class • 2- Object draws attention to person speaking • 3- Enhances participation • Disadvantages: • 1- Off task easily • 2- Could hit/injure someone • 3- Time consuming • Materials needed: any novelty object that catches students attention

Post It • What is it? • -A way to record opinions, thoughts, or feelings • -Offers efficient way to assess class level of understanding • How is it used? • -Used to assess understanding • -Good for pre-assessment • -Another way to use it – mark passages in a book to point out text summations and important facts for learning concepts • Suggestions for use • - Any topic, 1st-12th, beginning or end for assessment

Post It • Advantages • 1- Anonymous –makes students comfortable answering\ • 2- Students up moving around and participating • 3- Quick was to pre-assess • Disadvantages • 1- Wouldn’t know who knows the content and who doesn’t • 2- Wouldn’t know if all students were actually participating • 3- Classroom could get chaotic and out of hand/can’t control what people like • Materials needed: Post it notes and poster boards if you choose

Assessment • Negative Toss: • -Write on paper or discuss in class the difference in how students felt when writing and crumpled up paper and threw it at instructor • -Make a list of positive things to concentrate on instead of the negatives in life • Self-Esteem Builder: • -Write a paragraph describing how they felt about the comments and if they learned any new positive things about themselves • - Write a paragraph describing how it felt looking for a positive attributes in the peers and how felt about sharing those with peers and writing
