  4. What are disabilities? •  Disability means a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities. • A disability can occur during a person’s lifetime, or from birth.

  5. What problems do people with disabilities face? • Discrimination and bullying • Fewer career and work opportunities • Difficulty in using leisure facilities • Transport and independence

Disability in the UK • Over 10 million people with disabilities • Over 700,000 children with disabilities • Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (extended 2005) is a law which protects disabled people from being treated unfairly because of their disability. • Disability and Equality Act 2010 is a law which aims to replace and improve previous laws.

  7. What should we do? • Treat all people with respect and equality. • Challenge discrimination when we hear or see it. • Make buildings and public places accessible for all.
