  2. Why Go Racing? • Fun • Improve riding skills • Community • Improve knowledge of motorcycle mechanics • To “win”

  3. Basics • Prep your bike • Safety-wire, tires, oil-change, brake pads and fluid, water-wetter, bodywork • Get your gear • Helmet, one-vs-two-piece suits, gloves, boots, back protector • Earn your license • New Rider School – Friday before 1st wknd • Also offered mid-season • Race!

  4. How Much Will It Cost? • First year • $3200 to $7700, plus the bike, if you need gear • $2500 to $5000, plus the bike, if you already have gear • Later years: - $3k+ There are ways to make racing cheaper!

  5. Common Mistakes • Running out of time • Running out of money Don’t be a “frame painter”! A raceable bike today is better than a perfect bike tomorrow

  6. “Levels” of bike preparation • Legal • safety wiring, bellypan, numbers • Chassis improvements • shocks, brakes, tires, gearing • Engine improvements • pipe, jets/mappings, cams, etc. Buying a prepped bike is usually the easiest path to the track!

  7. Common Mistakes • Running out of time • Running out of money • Not asking for help – macho factor • “Information Overload” • Thinking your bike is the most important part of fast riding and winning races • It’s not! You are! • Riding skill, racing skill, consistency, mindset
