Overview of Maryland's FY10 Proposed Budget Amid $2B Deficit Challenges
The presentation discusses Maryland's FY10 proposed budget in light of a $2 billion deficit. It highlights the need for a 5.6% increase to maintain FY09 services but reveals the Governor's first-ever proposal for a negative growth rate. The budget is below previous spending levels, with significant reductions. Key areas like K-12 and higher education receive increased funding, alongside cuts to local aid and public services. Strategies include furloughs, laying off employees, and maintaining the Rainy Day Fund to prioritize essential services.
