  1. Dysfunctional Family Values Myrtil, Olivia, Connor, Ana

  2. Gertrude • Hamlet is rude to her before the play, makes a scene of the royal family • Believes Gertrude to be inferior to men and cannot be held accountable for her actions as she is a woman • In Act One Scene Two ‘Frailty thy name is woman! … Oh god, a beast that once discourse of reason, would have mourned longer!’ • Makes awkward dynamic between Hamlet and Claudius, as Gertrude knew of plans yet escapes all responsibility.

  3. Claudius • Kills King Hamlet… we think so far. • Marries his dead brother’s wife • Lack of Trust: • -- Hamlet sets up fake situations to see Claudius’ reactions • -- Spying: • -- Sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern • -- Won’t let Hamlet leave to England

  4. King Hamlet • Claims his brother, Claudius, murdered him • Asks Hamlet to murder Claudius for revenge, and reminds him not to sway from this task. • -- Will not rest until Claudius is dead • -- However, asks Hamlet to keep the blame away from Gertrude.

  5. Hamlet • Acts as if he is crazy to secretly figure out if Claudius killed his father. • Has actors put on a play that very closely resembles the murder of his father, to see if Claudius reacts. • Accuses his mother for being a horrible wife to Late King Hamlet, and being lower than a beast. • Wants to avenge his father… but also wants to gain his rightful place on the throne? • Is purposefully rude to this family in public to make a scene.
