Ergonomic EEG Cart for Viasys Healthcare Client: Peg Rickard and Art Kealy of Viasys Healthcare · Advisor: Professor Block Team Members: Joe Cabelka-Team Leader · Jennifer Wager-BSAC · Emily Andrews-Communicator · Anthony Schuler-BWIG Problem Statement: Viasys currently receives many complaints and suggestions regarding their EEG cart. Some customers have even asked to order Viasys’ EEG system without its cart. Our goal is to research these specific complaints and, along ergonomic considerations, design a cart that not only fulfills customer needs but also facilitates easy, comfortable workflow to ultimately increase Viasys’ customer satisfaction and profits. Final Design Monitor: Now mounted on a fully adjustable boom, the monitor can be seen at multiple angles resulting in less strain of the neck. There is also increased workspace. Additional Storage: A basket that fits into holes on the side of the cart serves as additional storage for the amplifier or other items. Materials and Costs: EEG –System Components: The components of the cart were rearranged to optimize shelf space not used by the system components. Keyboard: The keyboard is mounted on a sliding track under the work-surface. This creates more workspace on top of the cart along with creating a more ergonomic seating environment by allowing the keyboard to be pulled farther towards the user. • Design Constraints: • House all components of EEG system • monitor, computer, keyboard, mouse, power box, amplifier, camera • Address customer and ergonomic concerns • Retain current cart frame Footprint: An open footprint allows a space for feet to rest without hitting the bottom of the cart. User Survey Results: • Future Work: • Testing • Lend prototype to customers and give the same user survey for comparison • Perform a task analysis with new cart • Manufacture prototype into product • Create new prototype that better conforms to anthropomorphic data by changing cart dimensions Push-bar: The push-bar is now adjustable according to anthropometric data to accommodate users of various heights. The push bar adjusts through a height of 4 3/8” in 5/8” increments Cable Management: Using a hook system to organize the cables not only allows for greater mobility, but provides an overall cleaner look to the cart. • In addition to this survey, data provided by Viasys about customer preferences also factored in to our final design.
