  3. Agenda January 21st • Bell Ringer • Capitalization and Punctuation Note Cards • Figurative Language Terms: Narrator, Setting, Characterization, Plot, Point of view, flashback • Read Chapters 4-6 and complete comprehension questions • Journal #2

  4. Figurative Language Valentine • Using the novel, The Great Wide Sea, find an example of Figurative Language, bookmark it, and copy. Before Valentine’s Day, use the form of figurative language you found in the novel to create a Valentine’s Day Card for a Special Someone. Showcase and detail the example of figurative language from the novel and ORIGINALs (created by You). This should include a minimum of 10 examples of your specified F.L. and 10 chosen at random from the list.

  5. Journal # 2 Pretend you are Ben. Write a letter to his dad, Jim, persuading him to stop trying to make you and your brothers go sailing around the world.

  7. Vocabulary Words • Copy down the following words and locate the words being used in a sentence in the book.   9. Boating Terms Glossary Set Up • Top of page: Boating Term • Middle of page: Picture of the boat part • Underneath Picture: Write a sentence describing what that boat part does. • Underneath Sentence: Quote the sentence from the book using that word. • Bottom right: Your Name and Date

Vocabulary Words Directions • Look up the vocabulary word definitions • After you find the definition and copy it down, find the word on the page number in the book and copy down the sentence it is used in • Your definitions should look like this: • 1. Muggy- oppressively humid, damp, and close • “So I just sat there for hours watching us rush off into the hot, muggy June night…”
