  2. Framework of revised EMCDDA regulation (Jan 2007) Develop clear information on emerging trends and patterns of drug use and drug markets

  3. Background • The E-POD (European Perspectives on Drugs) project was initiated in 2005 • Complements activities carried out in support of the Council decision on new psychoactive substances and the Key Indicators • Began with two selected case studies: • Hallucinogenic mushrooms • GHB

  4. Triangulation of different sources Top-Down Routine monitoring data Scientific literature (25%) Case Study Internet, hospital emergencies newspaper/media Targeted non probability survey data (75%) Grass roots ethno-epidemiology

  5. Criteria for selection: agreed at expert meeting in May 2007 Potential for spread Misinformation/conflicting information Knowledge gap in the EU drug situation Increase in concern Potential for harm Media reports Reports of increase (prevalence and/or seizures) from Member States

  6. EMCDDA 2009 Draft Work Programme - continue E-POD project on new trends and launch new case study • Feasibility study for using hospital emergency data • Publication of methamphetamine mini case study • Develop methods for monitoring internet
