    2. Origin of Project Why was it set up in the first place? Need to look at new ways of addressing unemployment To do something different Particularly for young unemployed people and early school leavers – not being catered for elsewhere

    3. Addressing Needs 1,400+ Unemployed, 29% in age range 17-23 years Low educational attainment Social, Life and Technical Skills deficit Poor or no employment history

Citywide Initiative to address the gaps in provision for youth of 17 – 23 years Provide range of skills and personal supports to young people Address external and internal barriers to their participation Develop the social, personal and technical skills of young people Building their capacity to participate in the social and economic life of the country Project Aims

Young people placed on programmes complimentary to their individual needs Individual, self directed, “learning by doing” approach (practical) Training designed and pitched at right level (holistic) Training to include substantial phased induction process, based on individual needs Linkage programmes to facilitate a referral process, from on step to the next Development

    10. Profile of Participants 18 participants currently on project from the following areas of Limerick: Southill, Moyross, St. Mary’s, Garryowen, Our Lady of Lourdes and Kennedy Park. Lone parents under the age of 21 yrs Early School Leavers (5 having left 2nd level at age 15) 15 Participants had Junior Certificate 56 Participants ‘graduated’ the Project since commencement New Participants are awaiting places on project in September
