  4. The National Science Board unanimously released a national action plan to address critical 21st century needs in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

  5. STEM fields are collectively considered “core technological underpinnings of an advanced society” (National Research Council and NSF- National Science Foundation) The strength of the STEM workforce is viewed as an indicator of a nation’s ability to sustain itself.

  6. What does this mean to the HORIZONS program, right here, right now at Matt Elementary?

  7. Our overarching goal within HORIZONS is to enhance the quantitative skills and scientific literacy of all students. We want to provide technical knowledge and technical experiences with our eyes on the future.
