  3. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

  4. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (Note: He did not create Day & Night Yet)

  5. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

  6. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night

  7. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

  8. The Biblical Day The Following Slides will Show the Biblical Definition of a Day and at the Same Time, the Beginning of a Day…

  9. Day was Created First • And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1:5 KJV) • The Light was Created First. Then, the Cycle of Day and Night was Started After He had Already Made the Light. Day and Night began in the Light. In other words Night was not created until after the Light. Thus, in the beginning, there was evening “and then” morning.

  10. Day = Light (Literal or Figurative) • "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:5 KJV) • The Definition for Day in Strong’s can be Literal or Figurative and is Hebrew Number 3117: yowm, yome; from an unused root meaning to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether literal (from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next), or figurative (a space of time defined by an associated term), (often used adverb):--age, + always, + chronicals, continually(-ance), daily, ((birth-), each, to) day, (now a, two) days (agone), + elder, X end, + evening, + (for) ever(-lasting, -more), X full, life, as (so) long as (... live), (even) now, + old, + outlived, + perpetually, presently, + remaineth, X required, season, X since, space, then, (process of) time, + as at other times, + in trouble, weather, (as) when, (a, the, within a) while (that), X whole (+ age), (full) year(-ly), + younger.

  11. (Day = Light) - so - (Light = Day) • And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1:5 KJV) • Light is Called Day so it Would Stand to Reason that the Start of the Day Would Also be the Start of the Light, or Sunrise. Also, a Note on the Gregorian Calendar Which States that the Day Starts at Midnight. The very Word Mid-Night Means the Middle of the Night, not the Beginning of a New Day.

  12. Dawn Comes Prior to the New Day • Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. (Mathew 28:1 NASB) • Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. (Mark 16:2 NASB)

  13. 12 Hours in a Day • “Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.” (John 11:9 KJV) • Below are 4 Graphs that Show the Day Starting at all Four Quarters. There are Only 3 Graphs which Show 12 hours of Unbroken Daylight.

Morning (Dawn) Comes Prior to Day • The Definition of Morning in (Genesis 1:5 KJV) from Strong’s is Hebrew Number 1242: boqer (pronounced bo'-ker) from 1239; properly, dawn (as the break of day); generally, morning:--(+) day, early, morning, morrow. • Dawn is the time that marks the beginning of the twilight before sunrise. It is recognized by the presence of weak sunlight, while the sun itself is still below the horizon. Dawn should not be confused with sunrise, which is the moment when the leading edge of the sun itself appears above the horizon.

  15. Evening (Dusk) Comes After Day • The Definition of Evening in (Genesis 1:5 KJV) from Strong’s is Hebrew Number 6153: `ereb (pronounced eh'-reb) from 6150; dusk:--+ day, even(-ing, tide), night. • Dusk is the time that marks the beginning of the twilight after sunset. It is recognized by the presence of weak sunlight, after the sun itself is below the horizon. Dusk should not be confused with sunset, which is the moment when the trailing edge of the sun itself disappears below the horizon.

  16. Evening and Then Morning • And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1:5 KJV) • Something that should be pointed out is the chronological order of evening and then morning in the verse above. Most say that a day first contains morning and then evening. The Bible says that there was evening and then there was morning. Compare below:

  18. Darkness from the 6th to the 9th hour • And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. (Mark 15:25 KJV) • And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. (Mark 15:33 KJV) • It should be noted that it would seem unnecessary to mention that there was darkness over the whole land unless it was unusual. Probably due to the fact that the event happened sometime during the daylight hours.

  19. The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard The landowner found workers: - Early in the morning. (Mathew 20:1) - The 3rd hour of the day. (Mathew 20:3) - The 6th hour of the day. (Mathew 20:5) - The 9th hour of the day. (Mathew 20:5) - The 11th hour of the day. (Mathew 20:6) The last workers worked for one hour (Mathew 20:12) before all of the workers retired at the end of the day to collect their wages. Making 12 total working hours. Since the workers could only have worked when the sun was shining (Mathew 20:12), we can come to the conclusion that the beginning of the day was at sunrise…

  20. Happy hour does not start in the morning “For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;” (Acts 2:15 NASB)* *NASB Side note says 9:00AM When is it most possible to find a drunkard sober? See below:

  21. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Biblical Day begins at Sunrise and ends at Sunset. Day can also refer to the 24 hour cycle from Sunrise to Sunrise
