  3. What is the edTPA? The edTPA is designed to assess the 5 Dimensions of Teaching: Planning Instruction Assessment Analysis of Teaching Academic Language

  4. What certificate titles will be required to participate in the edTPA? • Agricultural Education • Business Education • Classical Languages • Early Childhood and Childhood Education • English to Speakers of Other Languages • Family and Consumer Sciences • Health Education • Middle Childhood Content Specialty Subjects • Performing Arts (Music, Dance, Theater) • Physical Education • Library Media Specialist • Literacy • Secondary Content Specialty Subjects • Special Education • Technology and Engineering Education • Visual Arts

  5. EAS What is the EAS? The EAS is designed to ensure that candidates meet the diverse needs of all learners. • Selected-response items = 70% of the total test score • Constructed-response items = 30% of the total test score

  6. ALST What is the ALST? The ALST requires candidates to demonstrate competence in reading and writing aligned with the Common Core Standards. • Selected-response items • Constructed-response items • Extended writing assignment • Extended reading assignment

  7. CST What is the Content Specialty Test? • A more rigorous subject specific test • Consists of multiple-choice questions and a written assignment • To assess knowledge and skills in the subject in the certificate sought.

  8. Revised CST ExamsGroups 1,2, and 3 Group 1 • English Language Arts • Health Education • Library Media Specialist • Literacy • Mathematics • Multi-Subject • Physical Education • Students with Disabilities Tests projected availability date: Spring 2014

  9. Multi-Subject CST 1 Exam for each Grade Level: • Early Childhood Education Birth-Grade 2 • Childhood Education Grades 1-6 • Middle Childhood Education Grades 5-9 • Adolescent Generalist Grade 7-12

  10. 3-Part Multi-Subject CST The Multi-Subject CST tests the knowledge of English Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics and Arts and Sciences or Science and Social Studies. Candidates must pass all three parts. If a candidate does not pass one part, they may retake that portion of the test.

  13. Candidates will take the existing CST exam until the revised CST becomes available.

  14. Who will Fall Under the New Exam Requirements?

  15. If applying for certification on or after May 1, 2014, the new exams will need to be taken. Those candidates who apply on or before April 30, 2014 but do not meet all requirements prior to May 1, 2014 will be required to pass the new exams

  16. Fees for Computer-Based Testing • Test fees will change effective May 2014

  18. School Building Leader Exam Current New School Building Leader Assessment (SBL) Revised School Building Leader Assessment (SBL) Educating all Students (EAS) For candidates applying on or after May 1, 2014.

  19. School District Leader New School District Leader Assessment Part 1 and Part 2 EAS – If completing NYS Approved Teacher Prep. Program and apply on or after 5/1/2015 or If completing Teacher Prep. Program from another state on or after 5/1/2014 Current School District Leader Assessment Part 1 and Part 2

  20. Dignity for All Students Act (D.A.S.A.) As of January 1, 2014, all candidates who apply for a new certificate or license will be required to complete a 6-hour D.A.S.A. workshop
