Department of Nutritional Sciences: Research funding • 2009-10 • $27 million in grant funding • 60 awards across the faculty • 4.4 awards per tenure-line faculty • 79% of tenure-line faculty have at least one award as PI or investigator • 11 faculty members have NIH support; • 5 faculty have NIH RO-1 grant awards

  5. Department of Nutritional Sciences: Publications • 2009-10 • 69 articles published • 1 book published • 5 chapters published • 5.4 publications per tenure-line faculty member

NRC Ranking of Graduate Nutrition Programs • Penn State Nutritional Sciences is among the very top programs in the USA. • R rankings 5th percentile #1 / 95th percentile #6 • S rankings 5th percentile #1 / 95th percentile #10 • Among all programs at Penn State we had the 2nd highest R ranking and the 5th highest S ranking.

  7. Childhood Obesity Prevention Training Grant L. Birch, Director, G. Jensen, Co-Director, L. Mulfinger, Associate Program Director Departments of Nutritional Sciences and Human Development and Family Studies Center for Childhood Obesity Research $4.5 million over 5-years Will support training of 10 or more PhD students

  8. Experimental Biology 2011 Students and post-doc’s will give 28 oral or poster research presentations and will be competing for prestigious awards.

  9. Opportunity to showcase our program Association of Nutrition Departments and Programs (ANDP) and Council of Food Science Administrators (CFSA) Annual joint meeting of department heads will be held at Penn State Nov. 8-10, 2011

  10. Nutrition and Dietetics Alumni Society Christine Taylor (President) and the NDAS Board Exciting new initiatives to grow participation, enthusiasm, and investment. Alumni Communication and Multiplier Network to promote dissemination of Department activities and initiatives including student, faculty, and alumni news. Quarterly electronic update by email
