  3. TIPS 1 • date it • take down key points • work in point form • write fairly legibly • forget about trying to get every word; go for main ideas • pay attention; focus • listen for the example • use short forms (Kn, yee, yer, m, u) • make up/clean up/summarize notes shortly after

  4. TIPS 2 • watch out for particular emphasis • ask to see things; take away documents • lots of arrows relating things • write down contact information so followup can occur if necessary • review it while fresh in mind • more is preferred to less • use the Cornel method of note taking

  5. THE CORNEL METHOD • who better to inform than university students whose function it is to take notes • start with a note pad and place about a 2” line down the one side • key points are on left side • ‘filler’/explanation is on the right side
