BACKGROUND • Homestay at Fanshawe for many years but under International since Fall 2003 • Changes • Numbers • Policies • Procedures
EDUCATING THE PROVIDER THROUGH… • THE HOME-VISIT • When - after the family has reviewed the information package which was sent to them by email • Why– to tour the home; get to know the family, answer any questions about the program; perceptions • What – talk about foods, orienting the student; culture shock
CULTURE-GRAMS • Where to obtain: • Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada website: CULTUREGRAM
STUDENT/COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS • Who? - Students, staff, community members from different ethnic groups • What? - Presentations to Homestay Providers during networking meeting • Why? - To give an overview of their particular culture with regards to communication, food, religion
