  2. Heroes in History What qualifies someone as a hero in history? What is considered a “significant” contribution to society? Significant: Sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy

  3. Courage: overcomes fears and confronts challenges head on • Virtuosity: never foolishly audacious; always judicious and well skilled to cite and seize opportunities • Sacrifice: willing to cast off personal comforts for a higher cause or the welfare of others • Determination: “Impossible” doesn’t exist, unflinching in their determination • Focus: have definite motives, know what they want to achieve or establish • Compassion: always empathetic, benevolent, and shows tenderness to those ailing or in distress, embraces the attitude to serve others over self • Perseverance: if failure occurs they get over it and fight until they achieve success, never give up • Dedication: selflessly dedicated to their task and will focus their actions toward achievement • Honesty: honesty earns them the respect of others, helps establish the individual as a leader • Loyalty: faithfulness to whatever task they undertake, particular commitment to a cause or people • Intrepidity: courage remains unshaken despite challenges, determined to fight • Conviction: strong beliefs regarding a particular situation, unshakeable • Fortitude: encountering a deed that is dangerous with a positive outlook • Responsibility: take up any responsibility with sincerity and take it through to its logical conclusions • Wisdom: most desired quality, do things because they know them to be right, not just for self, they know more than others Questions to think about:What are the qualities of a hero?

  4. You will need to be able to answer the following questions about your hero in history: • How does _____’s life mirror the hero’s journey? How does this qualify this person for “Hero” status? • Has this person changed the world for the better through their contributions? • Has this person made enough of an impact to be known the world over? • Include at least 5 parts of the Hero’s Journey in your presentation. • Present for 4-7 minutes.
