  2. A deep reverberating bass announced his arrival, then a crash of cymbal.

  3. A man in a blue silk jacket led the way. A friend? His master?

  4. He pushed into the crowd of children. They squealed and clapped with joy

  5. He welcomed their delight

  6. He pushed into the school gym crowd

  7. They tumbled onto him. A boy rode him.

  8. And then he was up. Was it a lion truly?

  9. Or men?

  10. He ran and danced

  11. And spied the cabbage and oranges. A sign of luck for the new year
