  2. Review & Updates Timeframe National-level discussion: • Review every 5 years (2015 for most) • Update at least every 10 years States may still update sooner if desired!

  3. 5 Year Review • Highlights from past 5 yrs • Focus next 5 yrs • Relationship to National Trends • Any data or info updates & data needed • “Check in” with stakeholders • Consultation with NA staff

  4. “Relationship to National Trends”Why? To more effectively communicate how S&PF Programs and Forest Action Plans address critical national issues

  5. Background • Discussed at NASF meeting last Sept. • NASF Forest Resource Management Committee dev. recommendations • S&PF Board  tasked a work group: Steve Koehn Jan Davis Marvin Brown Sherri Wormstead

  6. 1. Conserve Working Forest Landscapes 1.1. Identify and conserve high priority forest ecosystems and landscapes 1.2. Actively and sustainably manage forests 2. Protect Forests from Harm 2.1. Restore fire-adapted lands and reduce risk of wildfire impacts 2.2. Identify, manage, and reduce threats to forest and ecosystem health 3. Enhance Public Benefits from Trees and Forests 3.1. Protect and enhance water quality and quantity 3.2. Improve air quality and conserve energy 3.3. Assist communities in planning for and reducing forest health risks 3.4. Maintain & enhance the economic benefits & values of trees & forests 3.5. Protect, conserve, and enhance wildlife and fish habitat 3.6. Connect people to trees and forests, and engage them in environmental stewardship activities 3.7. Manage trees and forests to mitigate &adapt to global climate change Nat.   11. S&PF Core Performance Measures • Roughly ½ currently measured • What about the other ½? • Desire for more geospatial reporting, where that makes sense • Look for places we can reduce other info reported by states (focus on S&PF Core Measures)

  12. Relationship to National Trends States encouraged to fill out and include as part of 5 yr review and future updates to State Forest Action Plans

  14. Review Draft—Focus On: • Input on Forest Action Plan 5-yr review and update timeframe. • Specific edits & suggestions to the diagrams and measures (for each obj.). • Overall feedback on “relationship to national trends” table. • Ideas for communications component Review Comments due July 12!
