Safety is paramount in engineering and robotics environments. Always use common sense—if you're unsure about a task, don't proceed without asking. Horseplay or running near machinery is forbidden. Tools and robots must be handled carefully; never use them if you lack proper training. Always wear safety gear and ensure machines are turned off before maintenance. Handle materials with care, especially when lifting. Immediately report any injuries or spills to a supervisor. Adhere to these rules to maintain a safe and productive workspace.

General Safety • Safety is very important • Use common sense • If you think you shouldn’t be doing it then DON’T DO IT • No running around/horseplay • No Fooling around with tools OR THE ROBOT • Never use tools or machinery if you do not know how • handle tools safely and properly • When in doubt ASK • Wash hands before you eat
Robot Safety • Turn off the robot before you work on it • Bend your knees when lifting heavy objects including the robot • Never touch/come near the robot when it is running • When you turn it on, warn others • Make sure it is on blocks
Mechanical safety • Never hammer bent nails • Hack saw safety – use forward force only or it will ruin teeth • Don’t stand too close to machinery or someone using machinery • Always wear safety glasses with machinery and gloves when necessary • If you do not know how to use it, do not use it without supervision • You must be approved to use the machinery in woodshop even if you took woodshop
Electrical safety • Soldering Iron • Be careful when it is on • Do not touch the iron • Do not bother a person using the soldering iron • Do not wire a part you do not know how to wire • You risk frying $1200+ part
Injury Safety • We have a sink & First Aid Kit • Tell an officer/advisor if you are hurt • If you spill/break something tell an officer/advisor • Don’t clean up any spill (including glass) by yourself
Rules • No food near the computers • Robotics computers are for for robotics use only • No fooling around • No email • No games • Put tools back where they belong • If in doubt, ask
