  1. LNGS CS scanning facility Status report and Planning towards 2007 Run Nicola D’Ambrosio (LNGS) NAGOYA 7–9 December 2006

  2. Scanning Station microscopes status 6 microscopes at LNGS 4 are fully operative and used for CSD scanning 1 used for tests and ready for CSD scanning (hardware/software check and improvements) All the microscopes have the same hardware and software configuration The scanning speed is 20cm2/h/side For the 6th microscope the installation has been postponed to February 2007

  3. Scanning Station: microscopes final configuration Possibility to host up to 11 microscope Environment condition Very stable RH +- 3% T +- 1 °

  4. CS Scanning Station (LNGS)

  5. MIC_1 MIC_3 MIC_5 MIC_4

  6. Scanning Station status report • In the final configuration 10 microscopes needed to handle 15 CSD • There is a request to central INFN for 5 additional microscopes. • Up to now no official decision has been taken • One of these new microscopes will be dedicated to the brick analysis at LNGS. • For the beginning of 2007 Run 6 microscopes will be used for CSD analysis. (~ 8÷9 CSD/day !!!)

  7. Scanning Station status report… CSD Scanning Software configuration has been successfully tested. A Batch Manager Machine control the acquisition on all microscopes and put the data into the Database (CSScanDriver, WideAreaScanDriver, BatchLink) The quality of data is checked in “RealTime” The results of candidate measurement is written into the Database The shifter can check and analyze the data accessing the database

  8. CS Scanning Station (LNGS): Computer infrastructure Computing Cluster Batch Manager File Server Oracle Server Data Server External Net 5 TB Storage Disk System Domain controller + backup domain cont. NAS data backup GigaBit Switch GigaBit Switch Network Camera NI Field Point System local Humidity and Temperature control

  9. Events analyzed (LNGS) From August Run From October Run 1064775 Found (now in Nagoya) 2367442 not-found See L. esposito talk 1848052 not-found CSD Exposed to Cosmic

  10. Scanning station shifts First phase During this first phase and during October run a “typical” shifter has been an “experienced” person Necessary to check and validate the procedure THANKS TO EVERYBODY

  11. Scanning station shifts: 2007 Run 24 hours/day 3 shifts/day (8 hours) - 1 person/shift (Physicist) CSD Candidate Search 3 shifts/day - 1 person/shift (technician ???) CSD handling (LNGS people will be present in any case during normal working time)

  12. Conclusion • Hardware and software environment • VALIDATED • CSD Candidate search procedure • VALIDATED • 6 microscope will be ready for 2007 Run • Improvements are under study • (…see “Filter improvements” talk)
