  1. FAMILY

  2. Whether large…

  3. …or small…

  4. …family remains the foundation of our society.

  5. Even more important is the spiritual family.

  6. Our spiritual family… • A Father who provides

  7. Do not be anxious then, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “With what shall we clothe ourselves?” For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. Mt 6:31-33

  8. Our spiritual family… • A Father who provides • A Father who disciplines

  9. It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?

  10. For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Heb 12:7-11

  11. Our spiritual family… • A Father who provides • A Father who disciplines • A “mother”

  12. This is allegorically speaking: for these women are two covenants, one proceeding from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother. Gal 4:24-26

  13. Our spiritual family… • A Father who provides • A Father who disciplines • A “mother” • A sanctifying “Brother”

  14. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the Author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, “I will proclaim Thy name to My brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will sing Thy praise.” Heb 2:10-12

  15. Our spiritual family… • A Father who provides • A Father who disciplines • A “mother” • A sanctifying “Brother” • Siblings

  16. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him. Rom 8:14-17

  17. To be in God’s spiritual family is the greatest blessing we can have. As His “local family” here, we have gathered this morning to worship our Father & Savior, and to eat the family meal.

  18. May we truly honor our Father, and esteem the name of His Son we wear.
