Updates from the Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support: Key Changes and New Appointments
The Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support (BSIS) has undergone significant updates, including a new leadership structure. Dr. Steven Neely has been appointed as the new Chief, with Jonathan P. Keener as the Director of STEM/6-12 Science, Heidi Brennan for K-5 Mathematics/Science, and Ashley Palelis for K-12 Social Studies. Additionally, there have been updates to ELA and Math standards, as well as ongoing partnerships promoting adolescent health in Florida schools. This announcement also includes important information regarding instructional materials and course codes for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Instructional Materials Information • 2013-2014 (current adoption) - Comprehensive Core Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Language Program, 6-12 - Literature, 6-12 - Mathematics, 6-12 • 2014-2015 - Career and Technical Education/Agriculture, 6-12 - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), K-12 - Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE), 9-12 - Personal Fitness, 9-12 - World Languages, K-12 (Spanish and French only)
Mathematics Information • Zerocourses have an “EQ” code in the CCD. • Onecourse has transitioned to a semester course. • Twocourses are daggered and unavailable for use in 2015-2016 and thereafter. • ThreeESE mathematics courses were previously daggered and are unavailable for use in 2014-2015 and thereafter.
Science Information • Only “BI” and “EQ” codes exist in the CCD. • Many more courses transitioned to “EQ.” • AP Physics 1 and 2 are replacing AP Physics B. • FCAT 2.0 Science Grade 5, FCAT 2.0 Science Grade 8, and Biology EOC Assessment remain • There has been no movement on new or revised science standards.
Social Studies Information • Public review of the proposed financial literacy standards closed on 03/03/2014. • Civics EOC Assessment and US History EOC Assessment remain
