  3. More things to know about drama • Dialogue- the words the characters say • Stage Directions – tell how the character moves or speaks • Set – construction onstage that suggests the time and place of the action • Props - short for properties; the movable items used by the actors

  4. Summary • Brief statement that presents the main • ideas of a longer piece • of writing. • Identify only the main events that move the • story forward. • Organize events in chronological order.

  5. Dialogue • Words spoken by the characters • In the script- the name of the character appears before the words that the character speaks • Gives information about the following elements: • Character- thoughts and feelings • Setting- when and where events take place • Action- what is happening, has happened, might happen

  6. Answers to Reading: Identify Main Events • 2. Milo, with Tock the watchdog, sets off for Dictionopolis. • 3. Tock tells Milo about Azaz and Mathemagician. • 5. Milo and Tock visit the Word Market. They meet Humbug and Spelling Bee. • 7. Milo suggest the return of Rhyme and Reason and is sent with Tock and Humbug to rescue the princesses.

  7. Answers to Literary Analysis: Dialogue • Humbug: What? You dare to doubt my word? The word of a Humbug? The word of a Humbug who has direct access to the ear of a king? And the King shall hear of this, I promise you… • It tells me that the Humbug is proud. • Tock: That is easier said than done. The Castle-in- the- Air is very far from here, and the one path which leads to it is guarded by ferocious demons. • It describes the place where the princesses are. • Azaz: You will need a guide, of course, and since he knows the obstacles so well, the Humbug has cheerfully volunteered to accompany you. • It tells me that Humbug will go with Tock and Milo.

  8. Answers to Vocabulary • My brother’s ignorance of history earned him a failing grade on the test. • Washing your hands before you eat is a good precautionary measure. • The idea is very complicated, so it deserves careful consideration. • I knew the dog could be ferocious, so I did not go near it. • It’s a misapprehension that twelve-year-olds need very little sleep.

  9. Vocabulary Part B • We put boards across the window as a precautionary step against the storm. • I gave my friend’s feelings careful consideration before I chose a partner. • The zoo animals may look tame, but they are still ferocious. • It’s a common misapprehension that all exercise is hard.
