  2. Interesting facts about Ireland • All teachers in the Republic must pass an oral examination in Irish in order to be able to teach. The CeardTeastas is a requirement for teachers in all subjects and not just those teaching Irish. • The Republic of ireland has no nuclear power. The country's electricity stations are mostly peat burning, turf (peat) being found in large quantities in the Irish midlands, and parts of the north-west. Dublin has one oil burning power station, using imported oil.

  3. Ireland Lesson 3 Objectives • *Understand that Identity is social and personal • *Improve understanding of influences that affect identity • *Define community as related to family, friends, school and the larger community • *What is the impact of communities on individuals?

  10. Lesson 3 Conclusion Learning Assessment- Negatives • Students may not see this as an art project • Civics lessons might not seem creative to students… Could be “boring” • Ages of children who could do this in a constructive way could be somewhat limited

  13. Lesson 4 Learning Objective • To enhance understanding and awareness of how people may experience a sense of conflict between different aspects of their identity. • Creative expression and ability to describe conflicts regarding their identity visually

Lesson 4 Activity • The teacher projects a series of statements onto the board and pupils get up and stand near one of three posters on the walls stating Agree,Disagree or Unsure in response to each one. • The teacher encourages them to discuss types of personal identity • Students describe themselves • Students call out three words they have chosen and the rest of the class guesses which person they are describing themselves to.

Lesson 4 Learning AssessmentPositives • Students explore ways to describe themselves in easy to relate to terms • Students learn to comment on and discuss issues surrounding identity conflict • Students are able to be more creative and expressive with this type of project. • More art skills able to be taught anong with civics lessons

My Thoughts on lesson 3&4 • Effective lessons that explore identity • Community is a very important aspect that influences our identity • Creative use of debate and teacher / student interaction • Follow up homework project helps reinforce lesson objectives while allowing for creative art skills to be learned • Allows students to view themselves in new ways
